Scott Pilgrim vs. The Matrix

You knew it had to happen sooner or later. Somebody mashes up Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and the Matrix movies and uploads it to YouTube. However, I bet you didn’t expect it to be this good, did you?

Dr. Quinn: The Musical

Last year, some friends of ours put on a musical reinterpretation of Jurassic Park in their backyard. Unfortunately, we were unable to make it but it was, based on everything we heard, a lot of fun. So when we found out that the same group was putting on another musical, this one inspired by the life and adventures of one Dr. Michaela Quinn, we got excited. And when we found out that it would be in our backyard—or rather, the backyard of our neighbors—we got even more excited.

It was a thrill to see, firsthand, the production taking shape, from the construction and painting of sets to dress rehearsals. And it all culminated in a show that was everything you could ever expect, want, or hope for from a musical put on by a bunch of college kids inspired by a family-friendly television program from the ‘90s. I’m sure some video will be surfacing in the near future, but in the meantime, here are a few photos from the night’s wonderful, slightly irreverent entertainment (with more here).

Just another day at the office

Restore Joss Whedon

A charitable cause if ever there was one.

Galactica: Sabotage

You look like you could use a little awesome after a hard day at the office. You’re welcome.

Oh, and if you’re curious, here’s a side-by-side comparison with the original “Sabotage” video.

I’m not sure what’s more impressive: how well the mashup pays homage to both Spike Jonze’s original video and Battlestar: Galactica without diminishing the coolness of either one, or that it only took five days to create the mashup.

“Mass Effect 2” (“CSI: Miami” style)

I finally beat Mass Effect 2 this past weekend, and I plan to post some in-depth thoughts concerning the game, a la what I did with the first Mass Effect, relatively soon. In the meantime, though, I leave you with this.

Dolph Lundgren = Wednesday Awesome

You’re welcome.

How To Report The News

It’s funny—and sad—because it’s true.

525 Million Years Ago

On May 2, 2009, some friends of ours put on Jurassic Park: The Musical in their backyard. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to make it, but from everything we heard, it was a total blast. And having just watched the above clip, which is from the musical’s beginning, I don’t doubt it one bit.

More Jurassic Park: The Musical clips will be posted in the coming weeks and a DVD of the musical as well as a “behind the scenes” documentary (trailer) will be released this spring.

Pr*tty Sh*tty: “An Open Letter to James Cameron From Papyrus”

“An Open Letter to James Cameron From Papyrus”:

Goodness knows I’ve worked hard the past 26 years to make a name for myself. And it’s felt great coming to the aid of New Age spa owners, suburban party planners, and young couples looking to save money by making their own wedding invitations. But only now, by appearing in your movie, have I been given mainstream, high-level recognition as a serious typeface. And for that, I thank you.

This made my day. Thank you, Mr. Jonze.
