Somehow, I had completely missed/forgotten that ambient dreampoppers Hammock had covered Catherine Wheel’s epic, soaring “Black Metallic” (from the latter’s 1992 album Ferment). The cover’s a bit more aggressive than what I normally associate with Hammock’s dreamy sound, but it’s quite good nevertheless. And Catherine Wheel, who were often overshadowed by other shoegazers like Slowdive and Ride, deserve some more recognition like this.
Hammock’s latest album, Departure Songs, was released earlier this month.
Thanks to Rocky for the reminder.
