Kenji Kamiyama’s latest: “009 Re:Cyborg”
Thanks to his work on the excellent Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex series, Kenji Kamiyama has become one of those anime directors whose work I’m bound to be interested in simply because his name is attached. His latest work is an adaptation of Shotaro Ishinomori’s Cyborg 009 manga, which follows nine humans who are turned into cyborgs by a secret organization in order to wage war, but subsequently turn on their masters and use their powers for good.
The announcement came by way of this promotional video. It looks pretty slick, almost too slick, but Kamiyama has proven before that he can blend slick-looking action and animation with more thought-provoking themes and subject matter.
