Arcade Fire’s next album is on my list of anticipated 2017 music releases, and now news is circulating that the band has both finished recording the album and is planning an epic two-year tour to support it. But before Arcade Fire releases a new album, they’ll release The Reflektor Tapes/Live at Earls Court, which includes footage from their 2014 Reflektor tour as well as a documentary about that album’s recording.
The first clip, of the band performing Reflektor’s title track, was posted a few weeks ago, and it’s well worth watching. The song itself is one of the best things Arcade Fire has ever committed to tape — it blends their brand of emotional indie rock with pulsing electronics, post-punk guitars, and tribal percussion. Not surprisingly, it’s fantastically massive in a live context.
The Reflektor Tapes/Live at Earls Court will be released on January 27 (preorder on Amazon).
